Signature and ratification of the Convention
on Biological Diversity
Signature
During the United Nations Conference on Environment and
Development (UNCED)
in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly
Zaire) has signed the Convention on Biological Diversity on 11 June
1992.
Ratification
The instrument of ratification of the Democratic Republic
of Congo was deposited at the United Nations in New York on 3 December
1994. The Democratic Republic of Congo became hence a Contracting
Party to the Convention on that day.
According to Article 36, point 3, of the Convention, the
Convention on Biological Diversity entered into force for the
Democratic Republic of Congo on 3 March 1995.
