Nature centres play an important role in raising awareness and in the
education of the general public in the fields of nature protection and
biodiversity conservation. As a consequence these centres are particularly
important for the implementation of article 13 of the Convention on Biological
Diversity, especially within the context of its first paragraph:
Art. 13 - Public Education and Awareness
'The Contracting Parties shall:
(a) Promote and encourage understanding of the importance of, and the measures
required for, the conservation of biological diversity, as well as its
propagation through media, and the inclusion of these topics in educational
programmes;'.
