Keywords: genetic, transformation, in vitro, somatic, embryogenesis, aquaculture.

Major research topics in biotechnology

Within the Walloon Regional Group for the improvement of Forestal Specis (GRAGEF), the Water and Forestry Unit of the UCL is particularly involved in the development techniques for in vitro multiplication of forestal gymnosperma (Pseudotsuga, Picea, Laryx, Thuja). Current research is carried out on the control of ontogenic ageing of clones, in vitro multiplication by axillary proliferation or somatic embryogenesis and genetic transformation.

In the field of hydrology, the research topics of the Unit concerning biotechnologies are mostly the breeding, selection, feeding and growth of brown trout (Salmo trutta L.), rainbow trout (Onchorynchus mykiss) and Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.).
