Convention to Combat Desertification and
Drought
The objective of this Convention is to combat
desertification and mitigate the effects of drought, particularly in
African countries experiencing serious drought and/or desertification.
Convention
on the conservation of European wildlife and natural habitats - Bern
Convention
The Convention stimulates the conservation of wild flora
and fauna and their natural habitats within Europe. Special attention is
given to species, with particular emphasis on migratory species, and
habitats whose conservation requires the co-operation of several States
and it aims to promote this co-operation.
Convention on International
Trade in Endangered Species - CITES - Washington Convention
Countries ban through CITES international commercial trade
in an agreed list of endangered species. CITES also regulates and
monitores trade in other species that might become endangered.
Convention on the Conservation
of Migratory Species of Wild Animals - Bonn Convention
The Bonn Convention aims to conserve terrestrial, marine
and avian migratory species throughout their range.
Framework Convention on Climat Change
The ultimate objective of this Convention and any related
legal instruments that is to achieve, stabilization of greenhouse gas
concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous
anthropogenic interference with the climate system.
Ramsar Convention Bureau
The Convention on Wetlands is an intergovernmental treaty.
It provides the framework for national action and international
cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their
resources.
The World Heritage Convention
The Convention aims to treasure cultural and natural sites,
constituting a common heritage, as unique testimonies to an enduring past.
The Global Plan of
Action
The Global Plan of Action promotes the conservation and
sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture. Main
activities are: in situ conservation and development, ex-situ
conservation, use of plant genetic resources, and institution and capacity
building.
